Vision of the Future from Dell technologies

The world is becoming a better place (and to some extent a scarier place), from global statistics perspective. Part of the journey is the shift of our lives to more digital in nature. The global and local economy is going digital, Estonia being a huge inspiration for other markets as well. Especially e-goverment which has become a landmark how to actually do a digital society. Same for companies who operate in this e-society, they become more digitalized and in return gain better competitive advantage.
Data has become one of the strategic pillars in day to day operations and now seen as a true asset. How businesses collect and treat data right now will shape their future, regardless of the extent it is being used right now. Data lake with advanced analytics, AI and long term archiving is something everybody should consider seriously - the decisions 2 years from now will need your data from today.
Take for example a Croatian small company who can thanks to technology develop electric supercars (Rimac Automobili) with real-time telemetry and bespoke components.

In 2016 most of of businesses were in follower & adopter stage and not so many in digital leader area. This is an opportunity to become a digital business leader. Of course it's not easy and there are related risks but Dell Technologies helps with solving some of these challenges. The goal is to make technology more seamless and automated to get back time from operations. Key for customers here is to focus on accelerated time to value and how seamlessly technology could be adopted.
There are 4 different transformations coming to all customers and there is no other choice but to face them sooner or later:

  1. How to transform daily IT in all areas.  >>Dell is the only company who has portfolio that can address the whole digital transformation and not only subsets.
  2. How to financially acquire technology. >> Different financial offerings could be smarter ways than the old model of buy and depreciate
  3. How to consume and manage multi-cloud environments without the complexity of separate silos.

The real challenge is making the use of cloud environments inter-cooperating. And having a security framework in place for private and public clouds to run them in consistent operations.  >> Answer is multi-cloud strategy that allows to move different workloads between clouds with ease and freedom. VMware Cloud Foundation integrated cloud offering does exactly that.
Customers and users only care about how they access their applications, what they can do with it and where.

//preloaded image and applications on computers to simplify. But how you are able to automate and streamline also touches security closely. How applications are being developed and deployed is critical for security.

Future Application lifecycle

Generally we have heard about Kubernetes containers which right now have over 30 defined issues with security that need to be addressed. In many customers a breach in application was detected more 100 days after the issue was detected.
The speed of implementing changes in digital economy defines how innovative a company can be. 2 years ago for many applications an updated was rolled out maybe 1x quarter. Amazon today rolls out update patches each 11 seconds. To change that we need a different approach how to develop applications.
90% of traditional applications are not cloud ready. Gartner predicts that by 2021 75% of new applications will be developed as Saas (Software-as-a-service). Dell's Pivotal is a container/platform as a service that becomes the new reality based on Gartner. The fastest and most secure way to transform existing applications to IaaS (Infrastructure-as-a-service) is with Pivotal-like solutions that doesn't require a lot of changes in the application itself. Keeping the data from legacy applications interoperable with new applications will be harder and harder, that's why it is vital to have an application vision & strategy for the future.
Every € invested today for keeping the lights for enterprise business will be tripled in next 3 years due to the radical changes happening on the digitalizing landscape. All the above is a framework suggestion what to keep in mind when planning for the future.

  • 94% of leaders trust their business data. That trust is a precursor to adopting AI and analytics. 64% of laggards trusted their data to be reliable enough for business change.
  • 95% of leaders have adopted cloud computing and advanced tools such as serverless computing compared to 30% of laggards.
  • 91% of leaders work with cross departmental teams to combine IT and business strategies compared to 41% of laggards.
  • In 2018, laggards surrendered 15% in forgone annual revenue and may miss out on 46% in revenue growth by 2023 without enterprise technology change.
  • 90% of leaders ensure data quality compared to 64% of laggards.
